Raiders name Aidan O’Connell as QB, lose Christian Wilkins vs. Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to sort out their own quarterback situation, and it turns out they aren’t alone. The Las Vegas Raiders have had two options at quarterback throughout the entire season, and it is between veteran Gardner Minshew and second year signal caller Aidan O’Connell.
In Week 5 Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce pulled Minshew in the midst of the Raiders loss to the Denver Broncos, opening the door for plenty of quarterback controversy. Of course, fans of both the Raiders and Steelers have been curious as to who will be under center when the Steelers invade Vegas Sunday, and Wednesday Pierce made the call.
It’s O’Connell who will get the start.

In O’Connell’s two appearances this season he has amassed 176 yards passing on 32 attempts, with a 59.4% completion percentage. O’Connell has thrown 1 touchdown and 1 interception in both games he appeared in 2024.
Minshew brings experience, but the Raiders offense is looking for a spark from the quarterback position. The question now is whether O’Connell can provide that vs. the Steelers in Week 6, or if they’ll be back at the drawing board heading into Week 7.
In other news related to the Raiders, the team has placed defensive lineman Christian Wilkins on Injured Reserve (IR), so he’ll miss the game Sunday and at least three others.

The hits keep coming for the Raiders, but it seems the Steelers have had this good fortune the past two weeks and haven’t been able to capitalize. Against the Indianapolis Colts Anthony Richardson didn’t get out of the first quarter, but the Steelers couldn’t handle Joe Flacco and the lead which he helped garner.
Last week the Steelers faced a beat-up Cowboys team who lost even more players in-game, and struggled to do anything to stop them on Sunday Night Football.
Can they take advantage in Week 7 without Wilkins and a young quarterback under center? That will be the key for the Steelers who look to snap a two-game losing streak.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for Week 6.
