NFL Playoff Predictions: AFC and NFC Championships

The Steelers might be done for the year, but that doesn’t mean football is over yet! With four teams left in the hunt for a Lombardi trophy, these late postseason games tend to be some of the best of the year in terms of competitiveness. It is so hard to know who will come out on top when the remaining teams are so talented, but here is my take on who is headed to Super Bowl LIX.

AFC Championship Game: Bills at Chiefs

Josh Allen and the Bills head to Kansas City to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. To me, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes remind me of the Tom Brady and Peyton Manning matchups of the early 2000s. Both men are incredibly talented and in the prime of their careers. Historically, Josh Allen and the Bills tend to have success in the regular season against Mahomes and company, but they have not won in the postseason to this point against Kansas City. Earlier this season, the Bills defeated the Chiefs to spoil their perfect regular season record.

Josh Allen is an incredible talent and elevates Buffalo’s entire offense. James Cook has gone somewhat under the radar and been quite productive this season. In my opinion, however, the Bills are missing that one truly dynamic pass catcher for Allen to look to in clutch moments. While this game could go either way, the Chiefs have bred themselves a winning culture, and they know how to win deep in the playoffs. I think this will be a close game, but ultimately Andy Reid and the Chiefs will be headed to the Super Bowl to attempt a 3-peat. Look for Mahomes and Kelce to yet again seal the win with a connection for a touchdown pass in the 4th quarter.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Bills 24

NFC Championship Game: Commanders at Eagles

This is the game I’m more excited about. After upsetting the top-seeded Detroit Lions, the Washington Commanders head to Philadelphia to take on their division rivals with a trip to New Orleans on the line. I think this game will be extremely competitive and a lot of fun to watch. Saquon Barkley had himself a historic regular season, only about 100 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s all-time rushing record. He has found himself a home in Philadelphia and, running behind an offensive line that can open holes for him, his extraordinary talents are finally being showcased at the NFL level. The Eagles have weapons on the outside to throw to as well in AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. With that being said, the Eagles passing game has not been efficient over the past few weeks. AJ Brown has only 5 catches in the past two games on double digit targets. If Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts can be contained in the running game, this could spell trouble for Philadelphia.

Jayden Daniels has proven all year and continues to prove he is the real deal. The Commanders have won their last 7 straight games and got hot at the right time heading into the playoffs. After defeating the Lions in the fashion that they did, I believe they are capable of beating anyone right now. They also defeated Philadelphia back in December in a close contest, which proves they can win this game. I predict the Commanders pull off yet another upset and punch their ticket to Super Bowl LIX.

Prediction: Commanders 35, Eagles 30
