Pittsburgh Steelers releasing Gunner Olszewski
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7 on the west coast, and while they are preparing for upcoming game after their bye week, they are preparing for roster moves based on players potentially coming off Injured Reserve (IR).
There are two players who have had their 21-day window opened to return to the 53-man roster. Those players were wide receiver Diontae Johnson and running back Anthony McFarland Jr. To have either of these two players back on the roster, the team would have to open up a roster spot for them.
It seems as if the Steelers are making room, as it is being reported the organization is planning on parting ways with Gunner Olszewski. This per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network:
The #Steelers are releasing WR Gunner Olszewski, per source. A productive veteran special teamer and receiver available.

Using the adjective of “productive” to describe Olszewski might be a bit much, considering his time his Pittsburgh was remembered more by fumbles than plays made. Nonetheless, this does point to Diontae Johnson being taken off IR and ready to go for the game vs. the Rams Sunday.
This is news coming the same day as the team found out they will likely be without Pat Freiermuth for the foreseeable future after he re-injured his hamstring in practice.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Rams this Sunday at 4:05pm EST.
