Pat Freiermuth and Steelers come to terms on new 4-year extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1, but they aren’t done with making moves before the team departs for Georgia. Just days after the team gave Cam Heyward a new contract extension, they have come to terms on a new deal with tight end Pat Freiermuth.

This per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

While some might call it semantics, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting it is a 5-year deal, which is the same as a 4-year extension with the final year of his rookie contract this year, but he also adds the deal with Freiermuth has $23.38 million dollars in guaranteed money.

There was a lot of reports surrounding the Steelers wanting to potentially extend Freiermuth throughout training camp and the preseason, and the team got the deal done just days before the self-imposed deadline of the regular season. While some fans weren’t thrilled with the potential of an extension, the new 4-year deal will have Freiermuth with the Steelers for the foreseeable future.

Are the Steelers done making moves? At this point it seems more and more unlikely someone like Jaylen Warren will be getting a new deal before the aforementioned deadline. If the Steelers were to make any other moves, it likely wouldn’t be until after the season has concluded before they try to go to players’ agents to get to the negotiating table.
