Only 3 players miss Steelers practice on Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially started the 2024 NFL season and are preparing for their home opener in Week 3. As the Steelers took the practice field for their second official day of preparation for the Los Angeles Chargers, there were three players who did not participate while only one was limited. In the second injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR Department, only one new name appears on the list and it is not due to injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers Participation/Injury Report, Week 3

Thursday, September 19

No. 3 QB Russell Wilson (Calf) – Limited
No. 10 WR Roman Wilson (Ankle) – Full
No. 22 RB Najee Harris (NIR – Rest) – Full
No. 73 G Isaac Seumalo (Pectoral) – DNP
No. 81 TE MyCole Pruitt (Knee) – DNP
No. 90 LB T.J. Watt (NIR – Rest) – Full
No. 99 DL Larry Ogunjobi (NIR – Rest) – Full
No. 97 DT Cameron Heyward (NIR – Rest) – DNP

After being the third quarterback the last two games due to a calf injury, quarterback Russell Wilson is continuing to work his way back into the lineup as Justin Fields gets more preparation. On Wednesday, Wilson was once again limited as Coach Tomlin said he would be in his press conference. With Wilson once again being limited on Thursday, he is likely to fill the third quarterback role again this week.

On Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin once again did not rule out guard Isaac Seumalo with his pectoral injury, leaving the door open for Seumalo’s participation. To start the week, Seumalo did not practice yet again on Wednesday or Thursday.

After missing the last two games, rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson is looking to get on the field for his first NFL action this Sunday. But much like the last two weeks, Wilson started off with a limited status. In another repeat of last week, Wilson was a full participant on Thursday and will once again look to Friday to see if he makes his NFL debut this week.

Another player mentioned by Coach Tomlin on Tuesday was MyCole Pruitt with a knee injury. While some are convinced Pruitt will not be playing this week because the Steelers signed tight end Rodney Williams to the 53-man roster, Williams replaced Ben Skowronek who had just replaced Tyler Matakevich, both of which landed on the Reserve/Injured List (IR). But all of those players, including Williams, are known for their special teams contributions, meaning Pruitt may still be available. But this is looking even less likely as Pruitt was listed as not practicing both Wednesday and Thursday.

The new player listed on the injury report was Cam Heyward, who got a veteran’s day off on Thursday with no injury. This is something that will likely be commonplace throughout the season.

The other three players listed on the report were not due to injury and simply getting rest on Wednesday. Running back Najee Harris did not practice on Wednesday while T.J. Watt and Larry Ogunjobi participated in a limited fashion. On Thursday they were all full participants.
