Only 2 Steelers miss practice on Thursday
The Pittsburgh Steelers exited Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season both better in the win column and in the long-term injury department. Losing three players to the Reserve/Injured List last week, the Steelers don’t have anyone who has already been ruled out for Sunday Night’s game in Las Vegas. But even though the rest of the roster is hoping to be available, the injury is still quite lengthy.
With the Steelers having a short turnaround after playing on Monday night, it was expected that some players would be limited early in the week. In the second injury report this week courtesy of Steelers.com, there are no new names that appear on the list, and six players returned to practice to participate in some manner.
Pittsburgh Steelers Participation/Injury Report, Week 3
Thursday, September 21
No. 20 CB Patrick Peterson (NIR) – Full
No. 23 S Damontae Kazee (Calf) – Full
No. 39 S Minkah Fitzpatrick (Chest) – Limited
No. 44 LB Markus Golden (Knee) – Limited
No. 73 OL Isaac Seumalo (NIR) – Full
No. 80 TE Darnell Washington (Knee) – Limited
No. 89 WR Gunner Olszewski (Concussion) – DNP
No. 99 DT Larry Ogunjobi (Foot) – DNP
There were two players who did not practice on Wednesday that we’re not injured but were simply the coach’s decision to give them a veteran’s day off. Guard Isaac Seumalo and cornerback Patrick Peterson both were out on Wednesday but returned on Thursday as expected. What is slightly unexpected is Seumalo was listed as being limited. (UPDATE: Seumalo was changed to a full participant.)
Minkah Fitzpatrick left the Steelers game Monday night and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons with his chest injury. Although there was good reports from there not being a prolonged issue with Fitzpatrick, he did not practice on Wednesday. On Thursday Fitzpatrick told reporters he was going to play on Sunday, and during practice he returned to be a limited participant.
Another player who did not finish the game on Monday night was wide receiver Gunner Olszewski with a concussion. Being in the NFL’s protocol, Olszewski did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday which makes his likelihood to play in Week 3 very low as it would be extremely difficult to move through the protocol.
On the injury report every day of the young regular season, Larry Ogunjobi is once again listed with his foot injury. Not practicing on Wednesday or Thursday, it still does not mean Ogunjobi will miss Sunday’s game as Friday will be the true story.
Three players who were not previously mentioned as being injured who did not practice on Wednesday were safety Damontae Kazee, outside linebacker Markus Golden, and rookie tight end Darnell Washington. On Thursday, Kazee returned as a full participant while Golden and Washington were listed as limited.
As for the Raiders injury report, it can be seen here courtesy of Steelers.com. Being in the Pacific time zone, the report once again came much later this evening.
