Offensive keys to victory for the Steelers vs. the Browns in Week 14
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of the 2024 regular season, and with it being the team’s latest game fans’ hopes remain high heading into the final stretch of the season. The hope is there is a winning performance on the horizon on Sunday in Week 14 when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns.
What exactly do the Steelers need to do to on offense to claim their tenth victory of 2024? Let’s break it down…
Offense
Go Above and Beyond
After the Steelers 44 point output vs. the Bengals in Week 13 their average points per game has moved to 24.7. While it shouldn’t be necessary, if the Steelers can score above their average they should be well on their way to a victory over the Browns. How they do this should be rather simple, a balanced attack featuring both the run and pass to impose their will on the defense while dominating time of possession.
Don’t Turn It Over
It has been a while since the Steelers had a game where they didn’t turn it over, and while they are 2nd in the NFL in turnover differential some of the turnovers recently have been back breakers. The pick-six vs. the Bengals on the first offensive possession, Russell Wilson’s fumble vs. the Browns on Thursday Night Football, the interception thrown to Marlon Humphrey vs. the Ravens at the end of the half. The team is due for a game where they protect the football and don’t give a team like the Browns new life with extra possessions/field position.
Start Fast Again
Steelers fans had been clamoring for a fast start on the offensive side of the ball, and they finally got it in Week 13 vs. the Bengals. Just look at their first five drives last week:
- Drive 1: Pick-Six
- Drive 2: 7 plays, 70 yards, TD
- Drive 3: 10 plays, 70 yards, TD
- Drive 4: 5 plays, 68 yards, TD
- Drive 5: 5 plays, 29 yards, FG
All of these drives took place in the first quarter, and while this might be an aberration the Steelers getting a double-digit lead in the early portion of the game could prove to force the Browns out of their game plan and right into the defense’s laps.
I talk about this, and MUCH more on the “Let’s Ride”, and you can hear that podcast in the player below this article. In the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the team as they gear up for game time!
