Nicknames for Steelers players that would indicate 2024 success

You might be looking at the headline wondering what in the world this article is talking about, and if that happens to be you, let me explain. I am a big fan of alliteration, rhymes, and other ways to remember names, facts, and statistics, as it helps me when it comes to memorization. Creating nicknames for Steelers players may not help you remember these players, but they could add a swagger and spice that also indicate success for the 2023 Steelers.

Below are the names of three Steelers players that I believe are primed for bigger seasons than most expect. If they each have the season I believe they are capable of, they could garner the following nicknames:

Scotty Miller- “Scotty Bugatti”

Scotty Bugatti is a burner who could really take the explosiveness of this offense to a new level if he can provide some level of consistency. When given opportunities in Tampa Bay, he made the most of it, but he was a victim of getting buried on the depth chart amidst a transition time at quarterback. In Pittsburgh, the opportunity to rise on the depth chart is incredible, as the likes of Van Jefferson (the current projected WR2), Calvin Austin III, and rookie Roman Wilson do not inspire a ton of immediate confidence. Miller is not the biggest receiver, but he possesses a route-running savvy underneath as well as the speed to take the top off any defense. If he becomes “Bugatti” in 2024, the concerns about the Steelers offense and, more specifically, wide receiver room, will be alleviated.

Pat Freiermuth- “Playoff Pat”

Freiermuth is potentially one concussion away from putting his career at risk, but he is can remain healthy for a full 17-game season, he could finally reach the level of potential many fans, including myself, saw in him coming out of college. Despite popular belief, Freiermuth is actually a capable blocker. He’s just not the the most powerful blocker that is always pancaking people, which is why he is often snubbed from the recognition he deserves. Nevertheless, he is set to play a big role in Arthur Smith’s offense. Not only are tight ends prioritized in his offense, but “Muth” will have a legitimate opportunity to be the number two receiving entity. With the name “Playoff Pat,” this obviously means the Steelers made the playoffs and are making some noise in the process, as the Steelers tight end is obviously becoming a dominant force heading into and during the playoffs.

Beanie Bishop, Jr.- “Beanie Baby”

Perhaps we can have a beanie baby giveaway at a home game down the stretch, no? Beanie is a feisty nickel corner with outstanding ball skills and aggression, and I look forward to hearing new Steelers radio playcaller Rob King saying, “Beanie Baby with another big-time turnover to give the Steelers the ball in opposing territory!” This one may be a little premature, but with the Cameron Sutton suspension, he could see significant playing time in the slot early on in Year 1. What better way to complete an already formidable secondary than to have an undrafted rookie helping in the turnover department? Beanie Baby with the breakaway burners!
