My Worthless 2 Cents after the Steelers are whooped by the Texans

The title “My Worthless 2 Cents” that I came up with isn’t one I feel I can take full credit for, but is a story in itself, so here it is. I was in the 8th grade at the time, and found myself tagging along with my older sister (a senior in high school), as she was a part of the high school theatre group who would work as ushers for local community theatre productions. Working as an usher at a production of “Harvey”, the dad for one of my baseball friends came up to me at intermission and handed me two pennies and asked me to go back to the dressing area and find the lead actor in the play. I was to give him the pennies and tell him “this is from the guy with the big nostrils, giving you his two cents worth”. I thought this was funny so I agreed to do it, especially since I knew the two were friends. I go to the dressing room and deliver the message and the “gift”. The response I was given was even better. The actor told me to return the pennies and I was to “tell the guy with the big nostrils to take his worthless 2 cents and shove the right up those big nostrils”. So that’s it. This is my 2 cents after sitting on the latest Steelers game for a bit. You might tell me to take my worthless two cents and shove them up my nostrils, and that’s okay, because we are friends and I don’t look at it as personal.

I am going to break things down into three categories: One, something I feel stronger about. Two, something I have softened on a bit. Three, something that didn’t really change.

SOMETHING I FEEL STRONGER ABOUT

The scheme and Playcalling on both sides of the ball are terrible. Getting a two for one here, as I am not just going to pick on the offense but the defense is well. The schemes are vanilla (shouldn’t say that as it’s an insult to vanilla) and predictable. I don’t feel the need to talk about the predictability of the offense, as the podcasts and website has talked about that ad nauseum. What people are starting to talk about but it hasn’t been talked about as much is the predictability on the defense. The Steelers play a very basic defense (a lot of soft zone) and are basically depending on the pass rush to disrupt the offense. There’s very little creativity in any of the scheme, and they are just dependent on superstars making plays.

SOMETHING I’VE SOFTENED ON

Feeling it is on Coach Tomlin to fire Matt Canada. I feel like I’ve started to read between the lines of some of Coach tomlin’s comments. It appears that the decision on keeping or firing Matt Canada is not his to make and he is being overruled by the powers that be (probably Art Rooney II). This doesn’t make me give Coach Tomlin a complete pass, but it does give me a little bit of empathy to the situation he finds himself in. If he is the kind of coach that a lot of people think he is, he will be able to figure this out and right the ship.

SOMETHING THAT HASN’T CHANGED

Stieeer fans can go from being hopeful and optimistic to doom and gloom in the span of one week. I would be one of those fans. I was feeling so much better about this team after the game versus the Raiders. The offense was looking better, the defense played well, even the play calling seem to be improved. And then the Steelers went to Houston and looked disengaged from the game. Most of the team looked like they didn’t want to be there. What can cause this? I don’t know, but it sure didn’t give the fans much to be happy about after the game. I was potentially going to the Ravens game with my brother Dave, but he was so disgusted after the game that he threw his tickets up on Ticketmaster and sold them. I know a lot of fans that felt the same way.

There you have it. My worthless 2 cents. Maybe you liked it, maybe you didn’t. Maybe you want to tell me to shove my worthless two cents up my big nostrils. Maybe you have your own worthless 2 cents you would like to share. If so please feel free to share it in the comments below, I might look at it and tell you to shove it up your big nostrils…but that’s okay, because we are still friends.
