Mike Tomlin’s history as an underdog is worth noting

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on their way to the west coast to play the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7 of NFL action. Pittsburgh is coming off their bye, but the vast majority of fans don’t have a good feeling about the upcoming game.

But should they?

Mike Tomlin has a tremendous post-bye record, but there is another factor to consider in this game which isn’t as discussed as Tomlin’s record coming off the extra week. That would be the Steelers record under Tomlin when the Steelers aren’t favored to win.

The experts at ESPN recently pointed out how Tomlin doesn’t just have an above .500 record when the Steelers aren’t favored, but he is the only active coach in the Super Bowl era with 50+ games under his belt who has a winning record as an underdog.

Check it out:

“Mike Tomlin is 44-40 outright in his head coaching career as an underdog. He is the only head coach in the Super Bowl Era to have a winning record as an underdog among individuals to be an underdog in 50-plus games.”

Most Steelers fans are growing tired of Tomlin. They have learned to hate records like “no losing seasons”, pointing to celebrating mediocrity as the main focus instead of playoff wins. Nonetheless, no one can look at the above statistic and say Tomlin doesn’t know how to get his team “up” for a contest when the sportsbooks aren’t giving them a chance.

In case you didn’t know, the Steelers are 3-point underdogs vs. the Rams this Sunday.
