Levi Wallace inactive for Week 8 against the Jaguars
The Pittsburgh Steelers are now less than 90 minutes away from kickoff in Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season. Coming off of a win on the West Coast, the Steelers are starting their three-game home stand by hosting the 5-2 Jacksonville Jaguars.
As is always the case, 90 minutes before kickoff is when teams must announce their inactive list for the upcoming game. With 48 players active for each team, the number of players on the inactive list depends on if a team makes any practice squad elevations. With the Steelers not elevating any practice squad players on Saturday, they also did not fill the 53rd spot on their roster that has been open since last Saturday. Only having 52 players on the roster, the Steelers only have four inactives. The Jaguars elevated one player from the practice squad so their list consists of six players.
New to the 2023 season is a modified return of the “third quarterback rule.” Every NFL team who has a third quarterback on their 53-man roster will include him on their inactive list, but he is designated as a third quarterback and is therefore in uniform in case of injury to the two players ahead of him on the depth chart. But if one of the players is deemed healthy enough to return, the third quarterback goes back to their role on the sideline.
Here are the four players inactive for the Pittsburgh Steelers in their Week 8 matchup against the Jaguars according to Steelers.com.
Steelers Inactives
No. 2 QB Mason Rudolph (3rd QB)
No. 29 CB Levi Wallace
No. 60 OT Dylan Cook
No. 96 NT Breiden Fehoko
Mason Rudolph is on the list now for the seventh time as the Steelers third quarterback and will be in uniform which is technically an upgrade from last season. Joining Rudolph back on the inactive list is tackle Dylan Cook who was a healthy scratch for all but two games this season when the Steelers were dealing with injuries along the offensive line. Also, defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko is inactive again as the Steelers have their full complement of defensive linemen.
The fourth player inactive for the Steelers all came down to the health of their cornerbacks. With three players being questionable coming into the game, how many of them who would be able to play would be the determining factor of the final spot. With the Steelers not choosing to elevate a player from the practice squad yesterday, it was a good indication that at least two of the three players would be able to suit up. With Joey Porter Jr. dealing with a calf injury, Levi Wallace with a foot injury, and James Pierre with an ankle injury, two of the three were able to go in the form of Porter and Pierre, therefore Levi Wallace is the final inactive and Darius Rush will get his first helmet since joining the Steelers two weeks ago.
As for the Jaguars inactive list, it can be seen below. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is active as expected but starting cornerback Tyson Campbell and starting safety Andre Cisco are inactive due to hamstring injuries.
Jaguars Inactives
No. 5 S Andre Cisco
No. 7 WR Zay Jones
No. 32 CB Tyson Campbell
No. 56 LB Yasir Abdullah
No. 70 OL Cole Van Lanen
No. 93 DE Tyler Lacy
