Kenny Pickett expected to miss “extended period” with ankle injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers are having to turn the page quickly from their 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Acrisure Stadium Sunday, but they’ll have some serious questions to answer on the injury front, mainly at quarterback.

Kenny Pickett left the game with an ankle injury, and after the contest Mike Tomlin didn’t elaborate on the extent of the injury. With the dust settling on the loss, reports are circulating on the extent of the injury.

According to Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the injury could have Pickett out an “extended period”, but Dulac also added there is a chance he might need surgery. If the latter is true, it likely ends his season.

This is crushing news for the Steelers, who now sport a 7-5 record and are still in the mix for an AFC Playoff berth. Not that Kenny Pickett was playing at an elite level, but he clearly gave them the best chance to succeed.

Now, it looks like the Steelers will turn over the reigns to Mitch Trubisky and/or Mason Rudolph in hopes of keeping the ship afloat in the meantime. As for Pickett’s future with the team, that will remain uncertain depending on if he is able to return this season or not.

UPDATE:

Dulac says Pickett is slated to have surgery on his ankle and could be out 2-4 weeks:
