Julian Edelman was right about the Mike Tomlin Steelers

This week the Pittsburgh Steelers, and by proxy Mike Tomlin, were drudged up from their offseason slumber when former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman went on his podcast and spoke about the Steelers defense. To be specific, he talked about how the Steelers have completely failed to adjust with the tendencies of the current NFL offenses they face.

Well, you don’t have to have me explain things, instead just listen to Edelman’s explanation in the video below (Editor’s Note: Language might be deemed not safe for work/children):

Clearly, I shared this video on social media with the simple suggestion of a fan base who might not be paying close enough attention to these details on a yearly basis. Many had known this, but for some this might be new.

For those who might doubt Edelman’s claims, our own Coach K.T. Smith decided to dive back into the film to see if the accusations made had any merit to them.

Spoiler Alert: They do.

Check out Coach’s video explaining things below:

This has been one of the biggest criticisms of the Mike Tomlin Steelers, especially in the last 7-10 years. The hubris with which the coaching staff puts together plans, as if to suggest their players, regardless of scheme, are good enough to get the job done. Clearly, that hasn’t been the case in big games. Despite the Steelers failing to win a playoff game since 2016, and losing 5 in a row to end the 2024 season, the Steelers inability to adjust might be the most frustrating part of the process.

Will things change? If you listen to anyone within the organization, including Tomlin and Art Rooney II, you are listening to talking heads. Instead, focus on the product on the field in 2025. Let it be the true indicator of change being made, but don’t expect fans to have any real expectations of said change. We’ve been sold that snake oil for years now…
