How the Steelers confused Jake Browning and the Bengals offense

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their best offensive performance of the season, but it also might have been considered their best defensive performance as well.

The defense held the Cincinnati Bengals to just 11 points, and had three interceptions in doing so. The big question which was asked after Saturday was how Mason Rudolph was able to orchestrate the offense to their first 30 points game of the season. But the other question which not many people are taking into consideration is, “How did the Steelers stop the Bengals’ offense?”

There is a good chance the only reason this hasn’t been discussed as much in the wake of the last game is because of who was at quarterback for the Bengals. It wasn’t Joe Burrow, but Jake Browning and the defense completely confused and befuddled the inexperience signal caller for the second time this season.

But how exactly did they do that? What did the defense do differently, especially when you consider the fact the Steelers’ secondary consisted of proverbial sticks, some glue and duct tape. Well this is where Coach KT Smith comes in and helps provide the Xs and Os answers surrounding the black-and-gold. In the latest Call Sheet Breakdown, Smith dives into the Steelers’ defense, and what they did to not only help out the new pieces on the defense, but also confuse the Bengals.
