How the Steelers can beat the Bengals, even with Mason Rudolph at QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16, and it is quite the uphill climb for the home team as they desperately hope to keep their playoff aspirations alive.

The team will be at a talent deficit with players like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Damontae Kazee, Keanu Neal and Kenny Pickett out of the lineup for various reasons, but can they overcome those obstacles to sweep the Bengals in their regular season series?

To do so, they’ll need good quarterback play, which hasn’t been the trademark of the Steelers in 2023. Mike Tomlin benched Mitch Trubisky as Kenny Pickett continues to heal from his surgically repaired ankle, and is going to start Mason Rudolph in Week 16. Can Mason get the job done? Can he break the team’s 3-game losing streak?

Our own Coach KT Smith did another The Callsheet Breakdown video for the Steel Curtain Network YouTube Page, and he diagrammed how the Steelers can schematically help Rudolph not just play well, but beat the Bengals.

For many, they would be fine with a loss. For some, the higher the draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft the better. But for the players, especially someone like Rudolph, they are playing for their football lives. Can he get the job done? We’ll see soon enough, but be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Bengals this Saturday at Acrisure Stadium in Week 16.
