One player many Steelers fans are looking to see his status this week is outside linebacker Alex Highsmith. Missing the last three games after injuring his ankle in Week 10 against the Washington Commanders, Highsmith is expected to return this week according to head coach Mike Tomlin. On Wednesday, Highsmith was a limited participant as he expects to ramp things up as the week progresses. On Thursday, Highsmith made the jump to a full participant. Friday saw another full practice for Highsmith who has no injury status fro Sunday.
Two other names that appear on the list are players who are not on the 53-man roster but have had their 21-day windows open to return from the Reserve/Injured List (IR). Cory Trice is looking at his final chance to potentially return after having his 21-day window opened on November 14th. Montravius Adams had his 21 day window opened last Wednesday as he is working back from a knee injury. On Wednesday, Trice was a full participant while Adams was limited. Thursday saw Trice added back to the Steelers 53-man roster and both players were full participants. Friday saw another day with both players full participants and Trice has no injury status for Sunday’s game. As for Adams, he has been ruled out, meaning the Steelers will not add him back to the 53-man roster and continue his 21-day window.
Another player of note who did not finish the Steelers game last Sunday against the Bengals is wide receiver Calvin Austin III. In the NFL’s concussion protocol, Austin will have to move through the process this week in order to be cleared to play Sunday. The first step is to get on the practice field, which Austin was able to do on Wednesday as a limited capacity. Thursday and Friday saw Austin progress to a full participant. Justin must have officially cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol because he carries no injury status for Week 14.
The biggest concern from the injury report in the new player who was added on Friday. George Pickens landed on the injury report as a limited participant with a hamstring injury and is now questionable for Sunday’s game.
The other eight names of the Steelers injury report were all players who missed time due to rest on Wednesday and were not injury related. Guard Isaac Seumalo, defensive tackles Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi, tight end MyCole Pruitt, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, wide receiver Mike Williams, and running back Najee Harris all missed practice on Wednesday while linebacker T.J.Watt was limited. Thursday saw seven of the eight players back to full participants while Cam Heyward had another day of rest. Friday saw all players as full with no injury statuses.
