Fitzpatrick, Kazee return to practice, Trenton Thompson to IR

The Pittsburgh Steelers have qualified for the 2023 NFL postseason and are preparing to take on the Bills in Buffalo this Sunday. With the Steelers back to a regular schedule with a Sunday game this week, the first practice is back on Wednesday.

In the first injury report this week courtesy of Steelers.com, there are eight names that appear on the list, with four players who were limited while three missed practice.

No. 39 S Minkah Fitzpatrick (Knee) – Full

The Steelers announced just ahead of the practice report that safety DeMonte Kazee has been restored to the 53-man roster. The corresponding roster move was placing safety Trenton Thompson on the Reserve/Injured List. For this reason, Thompson does not appear on the injury report.

As was stated yesterday by head coach Mike Tomlin in his press conference, T.J. Watt has been ruled out for the Wild Card round of the playoffs and therefore did not participate in practice. If the Steelers can continue through the postseason, Watt would have a chance to return.

One player the Steelers are hoping to get back this week is Al-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. After missing his third-straight game last week as he entered with a questionable status, Fitzpatrick was a full participant at Wednesday’s practice.

There were two other players who missed Wednesday’s practice due to injury in running back Najee Harris with a knee and guard Isaac Seumalo with a shoulder. Both players have been missing practice time in recent weeks, particularly early on. While these injuries are something to monitor, neither player is expected to miss Sunday’s game.

As for Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts who played through his pectoral injury on Saturday, he participated in practice on Wednesday but in a limited capacity. Much like last week, Roberts will likely play through whatever pain he is dealing with and be on the field Sunday for the Steelers.

The Steelers had three players who were limited in Wednesday’s practice but not due to injury and instead was due to rest. Those players include defensive back Patrick Peterson and defensive tackles Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi.
