FILM ROOM: How the Steelers can slow down the Eagles ground game
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for another tough test in Week 15 when they travel to Philadelphia, a place they haven’t won a game since the 1960s, to play the Eagles. The game vs. the Eagles isn’t just about winning the game, but how they plan to win that game vs. the top ranked Eagles running attack.
The Eagles offense is averaging 190.5 yards per game on the ground, and even though the Steelers defense is the 4th best run defense in the league, averaging 91.5 yards surrendered per game on the ground, it will be a tall task. But the question isn’t if, but how could, the Steelers go out and slow down Saquon Barkley and company.
Anyone who follows me work knows I’m far from an X’s and O’s guy who could outline things like how the Steelers could use their current systems to stop the Eagles. No, I’m not that guy, but we do have a guy like that here on staff. That would be none other than Coach KT Smith. As I’ve said before, Smith has forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know, so let’s see what Smith thinks the Steelers will have to do to slow down the Eagles running attack.
Check out the video below:
What’s the key to victory for the Steelers on Sunday in their game at Philadelphia? Stopping the Eagles top-rated rushing attack. To do so, they’ll need great play from their LBs and DBs. Here’s a breakdown: pic.twitter.com/ifIJA7UF39

When it comes to putting up points, especially without George Pickens in the game, let’s take a look at Smith’s breakdown of Russell Wilson’s two touchdown throws vs. the Browns defense in Week 14. Here is the first throw:

Now for Wilson’s second touchdown throw of the game:
Here’s the second TD throw from Russ yesterday. This was a beautifully designed RPO from Arthur Smith that had the Browns defense scrambling. The combination of Smith and Wilson is proving really effective for this PIT offense. pic.twitter.com/0gwqypGkVz

This road game will be a challenge for a variety of reasons for the Steelers, but it doesn’t mean the tall task will be impossible. Can Mike Tomlin and company put the team in a position to win the game? From there, can the players execute the game plan to the point they can win their 11th game of the season and break their dreaded streak in the city of brotherly love?
Only time will tell, but be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Eagles this Sunday in Philadelphia.
