Do the Steelers have a better roster than the Ravens?

In correlation with this week’s episode of the Steelers Fix podcast, Jeremy Betz and I started a three-part series, comparing each position on the Steelers team to their divisional foes. This week, we compared the Ravens roster to the Steelers roster. If you have not yet listened, make sure you do so in the player below.

Today, I will go by position and give you my thoughts on whose roster is stronger at the respective position.

Quarterback: Ravens
This one is pretty self-explanatory, although I must say I like the Steelers depth much better than I do Baltimore’s. I would take Kyle Allen over any of the Ravens backups, especially now that Tyler Huntley is out of the fold.

Running Back: Ravens
This one is close, but I have to go with Baltimore. Derrick Henry has shown no signs of slowing down, and Keaton Mitchell has a true chance of ascending into one of the best change-of-pace backs in the league. Harris and Warren are a good one-two punch, but their styles are not quite as stark a contrast as Henry and Mitchell.

Wide Receiver: Steelers
This choice is tough, but for a different reason. Both groups lack depth, and they are filled with veterans who have failed to maintain relevance for any significant period of time. George Pickens and Zay Flowers provide similar value to the teams, but I definitely think Roman Wilson is more poised to provide value to the Steelers in 2024 than Ravens rookie Devontez Walker.

Tight End: Ravens
I love me some Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, but Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely are perhaps the best one-two receiving tight end tandem in the NFL. Charlie Kolar also provides good value as a blocker.

Offensive Line: Steelers
Based upon talent, I will take the Steelers here. The caveat is that I think Baltimore’s line will still outplay the Steelers’ line in 2024, as I believe Pat Meyer will limit the ceiling of the current offensive line. If Andrew Vorhees lives up to his draft billing last year, the Ravens will have stability across the line.

Defensive Line: Ravens
I went with the Steelers during our podcast, but after giving it some additional thought, the depth of the Ravens defensive line gives them the edge in my eyes. The starters, to me, are practically equal in value across the board, but I’ll take the depth of Travis Jones and Brent Urban over Dean Lowry and Montravius Adams. any day of the week.

EDGE Rusher: Steelers
If you need explanation for this one, may I recommend finding a hobby other than football?

Inside Linebacker: Steelers
Roquan Smith’s stardom alone is almost enough to give this one to the Ravens, but the Steelers did a great job accumulating depth at the position this offseason, which included snatching Patrick Queen away from Baltimore. Trenton Simpson, a projected starter for Baltimore, has potential, but I would not put expectations for him any higher than I would put them for Payton Wilson, who will merely be a backup for the Steelers.

Cornerback: Steelers
Both teams have an elite number one option in Marlon Humphrey and Joey Porter, Jr., and both teams also have an aging starter on the opposite side in Brandon Stephens and Donte Jackson. However, rookies Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa are quite raw, and I have doubts about how much they can contribute in Year 1. In Pittsburgh, Cory Trice, Jr. and Darius Rush have a year under their belts, and I will take Beanie Bishop in the slot over Arthur Maulet any day of the week. In fact, I would take just about anyone over the Ravens current nickel corner.

Safety: Ravens
Kyle Hamilton and Minkah Fitzpatrick cancel each other out in this equation, but I would take either one of Marcus Williams or Eddie Jackson over DeShon Elliott.
