DeShon Elliott returns to Steelers practice on Friday
The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving along through the 2024 NFL season and are back home for another prime time night matchup, this time against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. As the Steelers took the practice field for their second day with a required injury report in preparation for the Giants, there were five players who did not participate while three were limited. In the second injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR Department, one new name appears on the list.

In his press conference on Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not rule out either player, but spoke as if Nick Herbig and Zach Frazier would not likely be available this week. Missing the last two games, linebacker Nick Herbig is continuing to deal with a hamstring. As for center Zach Frazier, he missed the last game with an ankle injury. As expected, neither of these players practiced on Thursday or Friday.
Two players who missed the Steelers last game due to injury but were potentially coming back are Cordarrelle Patterson and Damontae Kazee. On Thursday, Kazee was back at a full participant with his ankle injury while Patterson was limited in his first action back from hurting his ankle against the Colts. On Friday, both players kept the same status with Kazee as a full participant and Patterson as limited.
Another player who missed last week’s game but was deemed to be more about missing practice time than the injury itself was rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson. On Thursday, Wilson did not participate in practice due to his hamstring injury. Friday brought another day with no practice which will likely have Roman Wilson out on Monday.
Another player who did not practice on Thursday was DeShon Elliott with a back injury. While this was worrisome to see at first, Elliot was back on the practice field as a limited participant on Friday.
Two players who are coming back from the Reserve/Injured List and are within their 21-day window are linebacker Tyler Matakevich, who just rejoined the Steelers for practice on Thursday, and Dylan Cook, who returned last week. On Thursday, Matakevich was a limited participant while Cook was a full participant. Friday saw both players with the same status as Thursday.
After missing a large portion of the Steelers Week 7 game against the New York Jets, Donte Jackson is listed on the injured report with his shoulder injury. But on Thursday and Friday, Jackson was a full participant and is looking to get back on the field on Monday night.
A previously unknown injury which showed up on the list was defensive tackle Keeanu Benton who is dealing with a calf injury. On Thursday, Benton was limited. Friday saw Benton as a full participant which puts him in line to play Monday.
The new name on Friday was guard Isaac Seumalo who was given the day off for rest and it is not injury related.
The final name on the Steelers injury list is Cam Heyward who got the day off on Thursday for rest. Heyward typically receives Thursdays off, and sometimes even Wednesdays, before returning to practice for the week. With the Steelers having an extra day of practice this week, Heyward got an extra day off on Friday.

Note: The Steelers cut and paste component has failed again as Dexter Lawrence is listed as “Hip” instead of his status. (The Giants have him listed as limited.)
