Chris Boswell wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 1

On Wednesday, The NFL announced their players of the week for each conference. Players are broken into offense, defense, and special teams. As many expected, Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 1.

Boswell was selected for his performance where he connected on all six field goal attempts on Sunday in Atlanta. Of the six attempts, three of them were more than 50 yards coming in at 57 yards, 56 yards, and 51 yards. It was the first time in Steelers history where a Steelers kicker connected on three field goals over 50 yards in the same game. Boswell also had field goals of 44 yards, 40 yards, and 25 yards.

The original post from the NFL account on X was deleted because there was an error from the graphic of the NFL’s announcement which says Boswell also had two PAT’s. This was not the case as the Steelers did not find the end zone on Sunday against the Falcons. The original post also announced the AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Joe Mixon of the Houston Texans and AFC Defensive Player of the Week Gregory Rousseau of the Buffalo Bills.

One thing that was not noted by the NFL was Boswell also had to come in an emergency situation to punt for the injured Cameron Johnston. Boswell ultimately had a 43-yard punt with no return.

This is the third time in his career Boswell has been chosen as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Previously Boswell won the award in Week 6 of 2015 and in Week 13 of 2017. Boswell also won AFC Special Teams Player the Month at the end of the 2017 season.

Congratulations to Chris Boswell on a job well done in connecting on every field goal where the Steelers called on him.

Stay tuned to Steel Curtain Network’s continued coverage breaking down the Steelers Week 1 victory over Atlanta and as they prepare to travel to Denver to face the Broncos in Week 2.
