Chris Boswell named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the lucky ones, and when I say that I’m referring to the fact they have one of the best placekickers in the NFL. While some NFL franchises go through kickers like T.J. Watt goes through pass blockers, the Steelers have one of the best, and most accurate, kickers not just in the AFC, but the NFL.

With the calendar officially turned over to October, the NFL gave out their monthly honors for the month of September, and Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month.

How good was Boswell’s September? Just look at some of these numbers

Boswell went 11 for 12 on field goal attempts for the month, including a long of 57 yards, and six for six on extra point attempts through four games, scoring a total of 39 points. His 11 field goals made, five field goals of 50+ yards, 91.7% field goal percentage and 83.3% field goal percentage of 50+ yards all lead the AFC and rank second in the NFL. Boswell’s only miss of the season came on a 62-yard field goal attempt in Week 3 vs. L.A. Chargers.

Boswell was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Steelers Week 1 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Boswell accounted for all 18 points the Steelers scored, going six-for-six on field goals. Boswell hit three field goals of more than 50 yards, connecting from 57, 51 and 56 yards.

Boswell became the first kicker in Steelers history to hit three field goals of 50 yards or more in one game. He also tied a franchise record of six field goals made.

The Steelers are fortunate to have a weapon like Boswell on their roster, and after the month of September no one who watched can’t say he isn’t a weapon.
