Chris Boswell misses Steelers practice on Wednesday with illness

The Pittsburgh Steelers have moved into the first week of the 2024 NFL postseason and are back in action on Saturday night in Baltimore against the Ravens. Getting back on the practice field, the Steelers gave their second required injury report on Wednesday where there were three players who did not participate while one was limited. In the second injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR Department, one new name appeared on the list.

Following the Steelers loss last Saturday night, captain Cam Heyward stated he was dealing with the flu yet played through the game. On Monday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated Heyward was excused in order to combat his illness. On Tuesday, Heyward did not participate in practice due to illness but likely would have been given a day of rest regardless. On Wednesday, not only did Heyward miss practice due to illness, but Chris Boswell was added to the injury report and missed practice as well.

One player who missed the last Steelers game due to injury was cornerback Donte Jackson who has been dealing with a back issue throughout the later half of the season. With the nerve issue potentially popping up at any time, Jackson was able to participate in practice on Tuesday as a full participant. Wednesday brought another full participation from Jackson, who could be in line to return Saturday should he have no setbacks.

The Steelers now have four players who have returned to practice from injury but have not been restored to the 53-man roster after it was announced on Tuesday that offensive tackle Calvin Anderson had his 21-day window opened. Joining wide receiver Roman Wilson, defensive tackle Logan Lee, and linebacker Cole Holcomb, who has been on the PUP list, all four players were full participants in practice on Tuesday. Wednesday brought more of the same as all were full participants with the bigger question being if the Steelers need to bring back any of these players for Saturday as their injuries seem to not be the biggest issue.

Leaving Saturday’s game early, rookie guard Mason McCormick broke his hand according to head coach Mike Tomlin, but is still looking at the possibility of playing this weekend if he can do so with a cast or brace. Wearing a brace on Tuesday, McCormick was a limited participant. On Wednesday, McCormick was once again limited as he works through playing with the brace.

Another player who was a limited participant on Tuesday was tight end of MyCole Pruitt. This has been the case on and off throughout the season as Pruitt has missed some practice time due to a knee injury. Wednesday saw Pruitt downgraded to not participating which could but his availability in question for Saturday night.

The only other player on Tuesday’s practice report was guard Isaac Seumalo who did not participate due to rest. On Wednesday, Seumalo returned as a full participant.
