Can Ben Skowronek be a valuable asset to the Steelers?
After watching the Steelers vs Falcons game in Atlanta, there are areas of need that continue to be present. Newly added wide receiver Ben Skowronek could be just what the Steelers are looking for. He’s not just another player; he may have a skill set that fits perfectly with what we need right now.
Last season with the Rams, Skowronek was more than just a receiver. Sure, he caught 10 passes for 110 yards, but what really stood out was his ability to block and his versatility. He played a key role in opening up lanes as a fullback and sealing edges for running backs as a slot receiver. With our receivers struggling with blocking efficiency in the Week 1 game against the Falcons, Skowronek’s a solid blocking wide receiver would be a real addition for us.
But that’s not all. Skowronek’s can also be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield, which adds another layer of excitement. Watching him with the Rams line up at full back, attack the line of scrimmage as if he’s a lead blocker then all of the sudden gets hit with a corner route for 20 yards was a thing of beauty. Imagine him coming out of the backfield making those same types of plays in the black and gold—he could provide us with some unique offensive options and create mismatches against any defense. It’s this kind of versatility that could help shake things up and make our offense more dynamic.
And let’s not forget about special teams. Skowronek’s role as a gunner on the punt team will be crucial. With the lack of gunners on the roster, along with the loss of an outstanding punter in Cameron Johnston, having a player of his abilities can be very beneficial. His energy and effectiveness in covering punts could help us win the field position battle and limit the opponent’s return game, which is often overlooked but incredibly important.
All in all, Skowronek’s blend of blocking ability, versatility as a receiver, and special teams skill makes him an exciting addition. I’m looking forward to seeing how he can make a difference and help the Steelers in more ways than one.
