Calvin Austin returns, Diontae Johnson misses practice on Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be back at Acrisure Stadium this Sunday after two-straight AFC North road games. As teams across the NFL are dealing with various injuries, the Steelers are once again hopeful to get an All-Pro player back this week after missing the last four games.

In the second injury report this week courtesy of Steelers.com, there are two new names that appear on the list, with no players who were limited while three missed practice.

One player who Steelers fans are keeping their eyes on is All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrik. Missing their last four games after leaving early in Week 8, Fitzpatrick returned to practice on Wednesday and as a full participant. Fitzpatrick increased his chances of a Week 13 return as he was once again a full participant on Thursday.

The other player who missed Sunday’s game due to injury for the Steelers was defensive tackle Montravius Adams with an ankle despite returning to practice last week as a limited participant each day. On Wednesday, Adams was able to return in a full capacity and Thursday brought another full day of practice.

Two players outlined in Mike Tomlin’s press conference on Tuesday who could miss some practice time early in the week due to ankle issues were wide receiver Calvin Austin III and quarterback Kenny Pickett. On Wednesday, Kenny Pickett was still able to practice as a full participant while Austin was unable to participate. Thursday saw Pickett as a full participant and Austin was back in a limited fashion.

There were four players on the Steelers who did not practice on Wednesday not specifically due to injury but due to getting extra rest. Two players who did the same thing the last two weeks were cornerback Patrick Peterson and guard Isaac Seumalo. Cam Heyward did not practice due to rest, but also had his groin injury listed as well. Wide receiver Allen Robinson was in a similar situation where he was designated as resting along with a foot injury. On Thursday, Peterson and Seumalo were once again removed from the report. Allen Robinson’s name remained but he returned as a full participant. As for Cam Heyward, he was given another day off on Thursday.

There were two new names on Thursday’s report, both of which did not practice. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was sent home and unable to participate due to illness. Coming back on the injury report after being questionable with a shoulder injury last week was cornerback James Pierre who also was not able to practice.
