Analyzing the Steelers Week 6 win over the Raiders, by the numbers

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally got the bounce back win they needed, this time coming in Week 6 to the Las Vegas Raiders. Winning decisively by a 32-13 score on the road, the Steelers once again started slow only to bounce back and take control as the game went on.

So without further ado, here are some of the numbers involved in the Steelers Week 6 win over the Raiders.

+3

The Steelers came out on the right end of the turnover battle, and it was even better than the number suggests. The Steelers had 3 takeaways in the game with two fumble recoveries coming from T.J. Watt punch outs. The Steelers also had a Donte Jackson interception. The Steelers scored two touchdowns on these 3 takeaways for a total of 13 points due to an unsuccessful two-point conversion attempt. The Steelers also added a blocked punt, which acts much like a takeaway although it does not officially count as one. The Steelers added a field goal off the block as well. Additionally, the Steelers did not have a turnover in the game.

The Steelers rushed for 183 yards as a team against the Raiders. It came on 35 rushing attempts for a 5.2 yard per carry average. Najee Harris led the way with 106 rushing yards on 14 attempts along with a touchdown. Justin Fields added 59 rushing yards on 11 carries and two more touchdowns. It was the most rushing yards the Steelers have had in a game since Week 17 of last season in Seattle against the Seahawks.

18%

On the Raiders opening possession of the game, they moved the ball 70 yards for a touchdown and never faced a third down. It’s a good thing they never reached third down as the Steelers ultimately held the Raiders to only 2 conversions on 11 attempts for an 18% conversion rate. The Raiders were 0 for 3 in the first half and 2 of 8 in the second half when it came to third down conversions.

19

The Steelers had their most decisive victory of the season, winning by 19 points. It is the largest margin of victory on the road since the 2020 season when the Steelers had a 27–3 win in Jacksonville in Week 11. There was only one other game with at least a 19-point margin of victory including games at home when the Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 34–11 in Week 16 of last year.

After giving up 32 rushing yards in the first quarter, the Steelers did not surrender any rushing yards in the second quarter in Las Vegas. The Raiders only rushed three times for no net yards. Additionally, the Raiders only had 25 rushing yards on nine attempts in the second half. In all, the Raiders had 57 rushing yards on 19 attempts for a 3.0 yards per attempt average.

7 for 50

The Steelers still struggled in the game when it came to penalties. Guilty of three holding calls, the Steelers also had two delay of game penalties and a false start. The other penalty was for an illegal forward pass when Justin Fields connected with Pat Freiermuth for a touchdown when he had passed the line of scrimmage.

8

Of the Raiders 11 offensive possessions, the Steelers held them to under 20 net yards on 8 drives. Additionally, the Steelers held the Raiders to under 10 yards on 6 drives. In all, the Raiders only crossed midfield into Steelers territory on three drives throughout the game.

5:46

Although The Steelers won the time of possession by almost 2 minutes, they did not have long, time consuming scoring drives. The Steelers longest drive of the game only took 5:46 off the clock. The drive was eight plays but only netted 16 yards and ended in a Steelers punt. The Steelers only had one other drive that was more than five minutes which took 5:05 off the clock and also ended with a punt. The longest drive of the game for the Steelers that ended in points was their opening drive which took 4:41 off the clock and ended with a field goal.

110

Even thought the Steelers won the game decisively, they did not have an impressive day passing the football. In all, the Steelers only had 110 net passing yards. Justin Fields completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 passing yards but lost 35 yards on three sacks. In a game where the Steelers needed to rely on their running game and defense, they were able to do so as things weren’t clicking in the passing game.

1

The most important thing of all, the Steelers were able to put another tally in the win column and push their record to 4–2 on the season. Whether it was by one point or 19 points, the Steelers got the job done and remain tied from a record perspective atop the AFC North.

So there are some numbers to help put the Steelers Week 6 win in perspective. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but it was good to see the Steelers win by multiple scores in the Pacific Time Zone.
