Alex Highsmith and Zach Frazier earn Steelers PFWA Awards
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for Week 18 in the NFL regular season, and that means it’s time to hand out awards for the season which is grinding to a halt. Tuesday the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) Pittsburgh Chapter gave out two of the yearly awards.
The first award handed out is the Rookie of the Year award, also named the Joe Greene Award. That honor was given to rookie center, Zach Frazier.
The next award was The Chief Award, given to the player who is deserving for their willingness to work with the media. That award winner was Alex Highsmith.

While the Chief Award is rarely debated, considering fans don’t see how players interact with the media, there weren’t many players who could have competed with Frazier for top rookie honors considering the status of the rest of the class. Troy Fautanu has spent almost the entire season on IR, with the same being true for Roman Wilson, Logan Lee and Ryan Watts. Payton Wilson has had a good season so far, but not near as good as Frazier, the team’s 2nd Round pick in 2024.
Congratulations to both Frazier and Highsmith for their awards! Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals this Saturday night in Week 18.
