AFC North Recap: Steelers lead evaporates in the division

The AFC North was widely considered the toughest division in the NFL heading into the regular season, but there certainly have been some bumps in the road where the division played poorly. Every AFC North team was in action in Week 5, but the AFC North had games on multiple times. When all was said and done, the Steelers loss to the Cowboys combined with a Ravens win over the Bengals caused their division lead to evaporate.

Time to take a look at how the AFC North played out in Week 5, the latest standings and the upcoming schedule in Week 6.

Baltimore Ravens – 41
Cincinnati Bengals – 38 (OT)

If you like defense, hopefully you didn’t watch this divisional game Sunday in Cincinnati. Both teams moved at ease on the opposition, and it was a botched snap/hold in overtime which did in the Bengals. It was a crushing loss for Cincinnati, who falls to 1-4, while the Ravens have resurrected their season after their 0-2 start. Talk about two teams headed in different directions.

Washington Commanders – 34
Cleveland Browns – 13

While the Ravens and Bengals game was a nailbiter, the Commanders and Browns was a lop-sided affair. Cleveland couldn’t do anything right in this game, and once again Deshaun Watson left fans wondering if the contract they gave him was one of the worst in not just team history, but league history. Jayden Daniels looks to be a young star in the league, and he had his way with a Browns defense which was supposed to be a Top 5 unit this season.

Dallas Cowboys – 20
Pittsburgh Steelers – 17

The rain delay didn’t have kickoff starting until 9:45pm EST, and kudos to the people who sat through that nightmare. The Steelers were outplayed in almost every facet on Sunday night/Monday morning, but the Cowboys’ continued mistakes kept the game close. The Steelers took a 17-13 lead, but the Cowboys final drive was the final nail in the coffin. What looked like a typical ugly Steelers win turned into a big Cowboys prime time win. A gut-punch of a loss.
