AFC North Recap: Steelers are the lone loser in Week 14

The AFC North was widely considered the toughest division in the NFL heading into the regular season, but there certainly have been some bumps in the road where the division played poorly. With the Baltimore Ravens coming off their bye week, all four teams who call the AFC North home were active in Week 14. Sadly, only the Pittsburgh Steelers were losers in the contest.

Time to take a look at how the AFC North played out in Week 14, the latest standings and the upcoming schedule in Week 15.

New England Patriots – 21
Pittsburgh Steelers – 18

Thursday Night Football marked the second time in five days the Steelers lost, at home, to two teams who came into the contest with two wins. I don’t think there is anything else which needs to be said.

Cleveland Browns – 31
Jacksonville Jaguars – 27

Trevor Lawrence was banged up, but played, and the Browns defense did their jobs in getting the win. But that’s not the story. The story is Joe Flacco coming in to save the day and taking over as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. Just when you thought you were done seeing Flacco in the AFC North…

Cincinnati Bengals – 34
Indianapolis Colts – 24

Speaking of back-up quarterbacks who are making a statement, Jake Browning of Cincinnati is playing really good football, and has now put together back-to-back solid performances. The Bengals took care of the Colts at home, and keep their season hopes alive. In the meantime, the Steelers remain alive with the Colts dropping a game. Suddenly, the game Saturday in Indianapolis has playoff implications written all over it.

Baltimore Ravens – 37 (OT)
Los Angeles Rams – 31

The Rams looked like they had firm control of this game, up until they didn’t. This was a strange game played in horrible conditions. It seemingly had it all…a safety, turnovers, and a game-winning punt return touchdown in overtime after both teams had a possession but were forced to punt it away. It was a crazy game, and the Ravens now have a stranglehold not just on the AFC North, but the top seed in the AFC.

AFC North Standings

Cleveland Browns – 8-5
Pittsburgh Steelers – 7-6
Cincinnati Bengals – 7-6
