AFC North Recap: Division title on the line for Steelers in Week 16

The AFC North was widely considered the toughest division in the NFL heading into the regular season, but there certainly have been some bumps in the road where the division played poorly. Every AFC North team was in action in Week 15, but the AFC North had games at different times. When all was said and done, the Steelers lost to the Eagles, the Browns lost to the Chiefs, and the Bengals and Ravens both won their respective games.

Time to take a look at how the AFC North played out in Week 15, the latest standings and the upcoming schedule in Week 16.

Cincinnati Bengals – 37
Tennessee Titans – 27

If you watched some of this game on Sunday, I apologize. This game was not the type of product the NFL wants to put out there on a regular basis. There were plenty of turnovers, occasional spots of defense being played, and even some Mason Rudolph at quarterback to cap off the event. When all was said and done, the Bengals won because they are the better offense. That pretty much sums it up when you are talking about two teams with losing records.

Baltimore Ravens – 35
New York Giants – 14

Lamar Jackson’s record vs. NFC opponents continues after the Ravens dismantled the struggling Giants on the road. New York hasn’t won a game at home this season, and it is unlikely it will happy anytime soon. Lamar and company, coming off their bye week, did plenty of good on this day both through the air and on the ground. They did exactly what they’re supposed to do against sub-par competition. A big win for the Ravens to set up a huge game at M&T Bank Stadium vs. the Steelers next Saturday.

Kansas City Chiefs – 21
Cleveland Browns – 7

The Chiefs defense created a ton of turnovers off the Browns, to the point where Kevin Stefanski yanked Jameis Winston from the game and put in Dorian Thompson-Robinson. It didn’t matter, but the biggest storyline from this game was Patrick Mahomes leaving with a high ankle sprain. Mahomes was awkwardly bent backwards while attempting a pass and is considered week-to-week as the Chiefs, like the Steelers, prepare for two games in a 9-day stretch. With the No. 1 seed on the line for the Chiefs, they have little margin for error down the stretch.

Philadelphia Eagles – 27
Pittsburgh Steelers – 13

The final score might have looked different if a couple things happened differently, but the game played out the way many thought it would. That being the Steelers continuing to not just struggle in Philadelphia, but struggling against top tier competition in the NFL. If you are having serious doubts about the Steelers “contender” status, they will have more than ample opportunity to prove everyone wrong in the next two games. If the Steelers beat the Ravens on the road to claim the AFC North, and somehow find a way to beat the Chiefs at home, they will have proved plenty to even the serious doubters among the fan base. But this game was one which you could tell was not the Steelers day, from start to finish.
