AFC North Recap: Browns fall further behind in division race
The AFC North was widely considered the toughest division in the NFL heading into the regular season, but there certainly have been some bumps in the road where the division played poorly. Every AFC North team was in action in Week 6, but the AFC North had games at multiple times. When all was said and done, the Steelers beat the Raiders combined with a Ravens win over the Commanders meant the distance between the top of the division and the bottom got even greater.
Time to take a look at how the AFC North played out in Week 6, the latest standings and the upcoming schedule in Week 7.
Baltimore Ravens – 30
Washington Commanders – 23
The Ravens and Commanders met at M&T Bank Stadium in a very anticipated matchup between DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) rivals. Washington hung tough the entire game, but it was their defense which wasn’t able to stop, or even slow down, Lamar Jackson and company. Don’t look now but Derrick Henry and the Ravens are just getting warmed up after the 4th straight win after losing their first two games of the season. Oh, and the Commanders are no push over this season, in case you didn’t know.
Pittsburgh Steelers – 32
Las Vegas Raiders – 13
The score might not indicate how close this game was in moments, but some fortuitous calls and breaks went the Steelers way and they were able to take advantage. It had been a long time since the Steelers scored 32 points, and coming off that offensive output the team is considering changing quarterbacks. What isn’t being talked about enough in the wake of the game isn’t the offense, but how the defense settled in after the opening drive of the game. If this group can stay healthy, and get some players back to health, they’ll be a tough unit to beat.
Philadelphia Eagles – 20
Cleveland Browns – 16
The Eagles were coming off a bye, and the Browns were in a downward spiral. Easy pick, right? Wrong. Although the Eagles came out hot, they cooled down quickly and allowed the Browns to claw their way back in the game. The Eagles were able to put together a drive which would ice the game, but the Eagles can’t feel great about the direction of their team. As for the Browns, the fire sale is about to begin…Amari Cooper being traded to the Bills was the first shoe to drop.
Cincinnati Bengals – 17
New York Giants – 7
A prime time game which was more low-scoring than most might imagined, but what no one saw coming was a 47-yard touchdown run by Joe Burrow. This game was ugly, and not entertaining at all. Nonetheless, the Bengals get a necessary win, while the Giants continue to sputter their way into mediocrity.
AFC North Standings
