AFC North Recap: A very clear leader of the pack emerges
Not all teams who call the AFC North home were active in Week 13. While the Cincinnati Bengals were the lone winner, the Baltimore Ravens were resting on their bye week watching their lead among the rest of the division widen.
Time to take a look at how all four teams did in Week 13, as well as what lies ahead…
Arizona Cardinals – 24
Pittsburgh Steelers – 10
While Steelers fans called this a “Tomlin Special”, in the fact a Mike Tomlin led Steelers team lost to an inferior opponent at home, the Cardinals wanted it more. They played inspired, possibly galvanized by James Conner’s return to Pittsburgh, and the Steelers were just going through the motions. This is the same Cardinals team who stunned the Dallas Cowboys earlier this season with Joshua Dobbs at quarterback, and further proving you never know what will happen in today’s NFL.
Los Angeles Rams – 36
Cleveland Browns – 19
The final score might not indicate how close this game was in the second half. However, a Joe Flacco interception ended the Browns’ hopes, and the Rams ran away with the game. The Browns, like the Steelers, aren’t out of playoff contention by any metric, but hope within their fan base is waning quickly.
Cincinnati Bengals – 34
Jacksonville Jaguars – 31
In what might have been an equal shock as the Cardinals going into Pittsburgh and winning was a Jake Browning-led Bengals team going into Jacksonville and beating the Jaguars on Monday Night Football. Steelers fans are already drawing the natural conclusions between Browning and Kenny Pickett, but I’ll just say the young quarterback played to win with nothing to lose. There is something to be said about that mindset.
