AFC North News and Notes: The two-horse race begins

Each week during the NFL season, I will be running through the top storylines from within the AFC North and giving my brief opinion on each matter that is discussed. Once the season gets into full swing, we oftentimes overlook many prevalent stories around the league, as we narrow our focus solely on our beloved Steelers. Hopefully this weekly piece will provide insight on the important topics in the AFC North and educate each reader on what to expect for each AFC North team moving forward.

With much to discuss and minimal time to discuss it, let’s dive right in!

Steelers Offense Resurrected Following Canada Departure

Never in the era of Matt Canada did the Steelers eclipse 400 total yards of offense in a single game. Well, in the first game without Canada as offensive coordinator, the Steelers did exactly that. The scoreboard was not exemplary of how well the Steelers managed to move the ball on Sunday. Albeit against a subpar defense, the Steelers displayed balance and aggressiveness on offense. They finally designed plays to scheme specific players open, they targeted the middle of the field, and they were willing to take the bib and pacifier away from Kenny and let him take shots deep. The running game also displayed efficiency, as Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren combined for nearly 150 yards. This all resulted in the best offensive performance we have seen from the Steelers in the Kenny Pickett era. Life has most definitely been rejuvenated into this team, and they could very well become a true contender if the success continues.

Bengals to Wear ‘White Tiger’ Uniforms for MNF

Not much is trending upward for the Bengals, as their offense is missing star quarterback Joe Burrow. One thing that is trending upward, though, is their uniforms. This Monday night against the Jaguars, Cincy will be wearing these fresh, unique, white-based uniforms, also known as the ‘White Tiger.’

Even if Cincy’s play on the field happens to struggle Monday night, their uniforms will be a silver lining.

Amari Cooper and Myles Garrett Questionable Ahead of Week 13

Amari Cooper and Myles Garrett are the latest names added to the Browns injury report. Garrett, who left the stadium with his arm in a sling on Sunday, avoided serious structural damage to his left shoulder, as the MRI came back negative. The X-rays also came back negative for Cooper, who sustained a rib injury on Sunday. The Browns have definitely had their share of injuries this season, and it has not let up at any point. They are currently without Jedrick Wills, Nick Chubb, Deshaun Watson, and a plethora of other key players. In fact, backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is currently in concussion protocol. If he is unable to play, former Ravens and Jets quarterback Joe Flacco will start in his absence.
