Time for a general confession regarding my time as an editor of any website I’ve been a part of…

There are times when you get tired, jaded, and downright frustrated with everything which is associated with running a website. It happens to the best of us, and that would absolutely include yours truly.

When I think back to my first season with Behind the Steel Curtain, not as the editor, but as the “No. 2” under Neal Coolong, I remember his “Renegade” feature. It was Neal’s brain child, and consisted of an article every hour for 24 straight hours leading up to the start of training camp.

It was a lot, but it was a labor of love.

When Neal left, he said he wanted to take the feature with him. I totally understood, and I thought of doing something unique leading up to training camp in my own way. I wasn’t about to put myself through the same amount of stress, and overall workload, Neal did for his feature, so I went in a different direction.

A multi-day affair with features every day leading up to the players reporting to training camp.

This was the birth of the “Training Camp Confidential”.

The first several years I did this, I absolutely loved it. The entire staff bought in, and it was great to see the fans really getting hyped up for the start of a new Steelers season. Through the years, it became more and more tiring for multiple reasons. Outside of the 2020 and 2021 training camps, which weren’t open to the public, the 2022 Training Camp Confidential might have been the worst, for me.

The entire process was haphazardly put together, and the overall approach was lazy. That’s not on anyone’s shoulders other than me. It was my job to get it together, and I pulled a Rashard Mendenhall.

However, with this new venture at FFSN comes a new sense of vigor. A shot of life into the process. So, the entire purpose of this article today is to prepare you, the fans, for the first FFSN “Training Camp Confidential”.

Maybe you’re new to this process and don’t know what to expect? Starting Monday, you’ll see some unique features tailored to the upcoming season/training camp. Everything from updated depth charts, roster predictions, regular season predictions, film rooms, etc. It is truly meant to be the ramp up for you the fan as the players report on Wednesday. Don’t worry about the news being missed, we’ll still have that covered. However, you’ll see other features which hopefully have you ready to run through a wall as the players show up at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

So, buckle up fans…the Training Camp Confidential is coming!!
