6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Wednesday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field again at St. Vincent College for training camp on Wednesday and for their second practice in pads. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a few players, I am excited to continue the players mentioned article at Steel Curtain Network for the 2024 season! Remember these are supposed players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period. Since there were not many questions about specific players, excerpts from Coach Tomlin’s opening statement will also be used.

David Perales & Kyron Johnson

In his opening statement, Coach Tomlin gave an update on players who were injured in practice on Wednesday. The two players he mentioned were David Perales and Kyron Johnson.

“Had a few injuries to analyze today. David Perales has a knee injury that’s being evaluated. Kyron Johnson had a hamstring that got a little tight and we had to pull him out.”

Roman Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked if there was any update on the injury to wide receiver Roman Wilson which happened on Tuesday.

“It’s an ankle sprain. I’m sure I’m going to get it after practice, but I hadn’t had the chance to meet with the doctors yet.”

Nick Herbig & Jeremiah Moon

Coach Tomlin was asked about the depth at outside linebacker and what he has seen from Nick Herbig going into his second season. In his response, Coach Tomlin also mentioned Jeremiah Moon.

“[Nick] Herbig is an example of our expectations for year two guys. He showed some flashes a year ago. Obviously, he’s a capable [special] teamer. We’re just into him developing all components of his game and being varsity in all areas. He’s definitely capable of that and focused on that, and as you mentioned it’s been providing a great opportunity for some of the other guys, like [Jeremiah] Moon and others to get more reps and to get more reps against quality competition. And, so it’s good for them, as well.”

Russell Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked what he has seen from Russell Wilson and if anything has pleasantly surprised him.

“I’ll answer your last question first. I don’t know that I’m surprised by anything. This guys has been in the league for a long time, and his reputation precedes him in terms of his relationship with the game, his leadership skills, his willingness to work – all those things have been confirmed for me. It’s a pleasure to work with him day to day. He’s a football lover and a football junkie, and that’s an asset to him and to us.”

In a follow-up question, Coach Tomlin was asked what he has liked out of the leadership Wilson has displayed.

“Just his willingness to work and his communication skills. Whether it’s player-to-player, player-to-coach, it’s really good.”
