6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Tuesday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field again at St. Vincent College for training camp on Tuesday after a day off ahead of their first preseason game on Friday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was only asked about a few players, I am going to continue the players mentioned and will do my best to dress it up a little. Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period. I’ll also include a quote about players who were brought up in Coach Tomlin’s opening statement.

Tyler Murray, Alex Highsmith, Nate Meadors, & DeMarvin Leal

In his opening statement, Coach Tomlin brought up four players who were dealing with injuries during practice on Tuesday.

“We’ve got a laundry list of training camp-like injuries and so forth. Tyler Murray’s got a groin, Alex Highsmith’s got a groin. Nate Meadors has a hammy. [DeMarvin] Leal had something happen, but it’s that time of year. It’s the dog days of summer. We’ll get through it. One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity. It’ll create some short lines in instances, and guys are really going to have an opportunity to put their conditioning on display or work on it. But, it’s a component of the process. We’ll keep rolling this ball out and grind.”

Russell Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked what he liked about quarterback Russell Wilson’s seven shots performance on Tuesday.

“I thought they all did a good job. As I mentioned, we didn’t warm up to the action.”

In a later question, Coach Tomlin was asked about Russell Wilson‘s short term misery.

“I’ll let him speak for himself in that regard, but again, it was about just not taking steps backwards as we move forward.”

Justin Fields

Coach Tomlin was asked where he has seen quarterback Justin Field grow the most so far.

“I think we’re still writing that story. I like the attention that he brings to the things we’re trying toget done. He’s really been focused on his lower body in the pocket, for example. He’s doing a nice job of that. But, we’ve got a lot of ongoing projects and things that we’re focused on in terms of getting better. He’s doing a nice job of it.”

In a follow up question, Coach Tomlin was asked a question that was very difficult to hear in regards to Justin Fields, but it appeared to be about having the support of the players in the locker room.

“I just think it comes with the quarterback position.”
