6 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Monday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field again at St. Vincent College for training camp on Monday morning in pads before a day off on Tuesday.. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a few players, I am going to continue the players mentioned article. Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

Grayland Arnold

Coach Tomlin was asked about defensive back Grayland Arnold getting more of an opportunity with the first defensive group.

“He’s healthy. He wasn’t healthy last week, so we minimized him. He’s healthy this week, so we gave him more reps and we gave him higher quality reps in an effort to get to know him. Don’t read too much into it.”

Nate Herbig & Zach Frazier

Coach Tomlin was asked about how centers Nate Herbig and Zach Frazier did blocking on the plays where there were good center-to-quarterback exchanges.

“I like their efforts. But I cannot remove that fundamental component of evaluation. We’ve got to be 1000% on C-Q [center-quarterback] exchanges. That’s just the standard of professional ball, and so they’re evolving there.”

Russell Wilson

Coach Tom was asked if Russell Wilson will be starting the game on Saturday.

“We haven’t determined that yet. We’re Steelers versus Steelers right now. We’ll get to some of that stuff later in the week. I think I’ll meet with you guys and talk about Buffalo in the press conference.”

Cordarrelle Patterson

Coach Tomlin was asked how Cordarrelle Patterson performed in his first padded practice of training camp.

“Yeah, this is not his first rodeo, man. He’s been around a couple blocks and back, so I don’t think any of us are surprised he’s capable and can swim in these waters.”

Dean Lowry

Coach Tomlin was asked about defensive lineman Dean Lowry working his way back and what he provides.

“Same thing man. He’s a veteran player. That’s why we did business with him in the offseason, but he’s missed a lot of time and I’m sure he’s got extreme urgency in terms of hurrying up to catch up. He understands what this process is about and how the sand runs through the hourglass. So I’m sure he’s extremely urgent.”
