5 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Wednesday’s training camp practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field for the last time at St. Vincent College for training camp on Wednesday. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media about their day on the field. Since he was asked about a few players, I am going to continue the players mentioned article. Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

Russell Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked how Russell Wilson is progressing.

“He had a really good day today. It’s been arrow pointed up the whole time. I like the trajectory of it, certainly.”

In a later question, Coach Tomlin was asked what he’s learned about Russell Wilson since the time he’s gotten to camp.

“You know, it’s a get-to-know [process]. We’ve known each other from a distance. Obviously, we’re both Virginia guys. But you don’t really know people until you get the opportunity to work with them day-to-day, and we’ve established a foundation in that regard. But it’s just the beginning to be quite honest with you. The journey that is the season is going to provide opportunities for us to do that.”

Roman Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked if Roman Wilson is ready to return.

“Absolutely not. He is still out.”

Zach Frazier

Coach Tomlin was asked about Zach Frazier having the opportunity to play with the first team.

“Zach has been constantly improving, as have those young guys. I can’t say enough about that rookie class and the offensive line. I think there’s strength and community, they work hard, they study together. I just like what I’ve seen from them. But, we’ve invested a lot in them, and so we’ve got some expectations, so it’s not like we’re surprised.”

In a follow-up question, Coach Tomlin was asked if Frazier will start on Saturday.

“We haven’t made any decisions as it pertains to Saturday yet.”

Donte Jackson

Coach Tomlin was asked if there was an update on cornerback Donte Jackson.

“None.”

Ryan Watts

Coach Tomlin was asked if there were any takeaways from Ryan Watts during training camp.

“He’s getting better. Getting better everyday. A component of that is his communication skills. A young guy that communicates as clearly as he does, it kind of indicates understanding. So, he’s headed in the right direction.”
