5 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Friday’s practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers took to the practice field again at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Friday for their final official practice of Week 2. Following practice, head coach Mike Tomlin briefly addressed the media informally. Although he was speaking about the quarterbacks, there were questions about other positions. For this reason I am going to do my best to bring another players mentioned article. Remember these are players where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period after setting things up with part of his opening statement.

Russell Wilson & Justin Fields

In Coach Tomlin‘s opening statement, he gave an update on quarterback Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

“Regarding Russell [Wilson]‘s availability. I’m going to list him as questionable. And so obviously, if his availability is questionable, then starting is less so. But we’ve been in that mindset all week. Like I’ve said, we’ve been focused on getting Justin [Fields] ready to play, and will continue in that mindset as we push forward toward game time.”

Troy Fautanu & Roman Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked how he has been handling the distribution of offensive line reps during practice.

“You know, I think the only thing different this week is Troy [Fautanu] is more available. Obviously, his availability is not in question, and so I’ve been more thoughtful about how to distribute reps, and at the end of this thing, we’ll determine who plays and how often.”

Coach Tomlin was asked what he has learned about Fautanu‘s ability to jump on the moving train. In his response, Coach Tomlin also mentioned rookie Roman Wilson.

“You know, he’s been here the whole time. His injury is different than Roman [Wilson], if you will. Roman got hurt in the very early portions of the process. He’s been a component, a large component of the process, and so it’s a different discussion.”

Broderick Jones

Coach Tomlin was asked about Broderick Jones working on the left side.

“Broderick [Jones] has been working on right and left since the spring.”
