One player who had been essentially ruled out for Sunday is outside linebacker Alex Highsmith with a groin injury. It was not a surprise to see Highsmith did not participate in practice all week and officially be ruled out for Sunday.
Two other players who missed the Steelers last game and did not practice last week were running back Jaylen Warren and tight end MyCole Pruitt both with knee injuries. To start this week both Warren and Pruitt were held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday that trend continued and both players were ruled out for the game Sunday night.
After missing the first four games of the season, there is hope guard Isaac Seumalo can return to a Steelers offensive line that has been decimated by injuries. Returning to practice last week as a limited participant each day, Seumalo began this week as a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday brought a limited participation label, but he carried no game status for the game in Week 5.
After being the third quarterback the first four games due to a calf injury, quarterback Russell Wilson is continuing to work his way back into the lineup as Justin Fields gets more preparation. On Wednesday and Thursday, Wilson was limited once again with the same calf injury which has sidelined him since before the regular season began. On Friday it was status quo for Wilson as he remained limited in his participation at practice and is once again questionable for Sunday’s game, setting him up to be the emergency quarterback yet again.
There were several players from the Steelers loss in Week 4 who were banged up and landed on the injury report to start this week. Nick Herbig is dealing with an ankle injury and did not practice on Wednesday while on Thursday he moved to a limited participant. Friday saw Herbig have a full participation level and no game status. Keeanu Benton is also dealing with an ankle issue that had him limited on Wednesday, but he was able to be a full participant Thursday and Friday as has no injury status for Sunday. Cordarrelle Patterson did not finish last Sunday’s game with his ankle injury and did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. On Friday, Patterson remained out of practice and will be sidelined this week as he was ruled out of the game.
The only new addition to the injury report was defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi who was limited in practice Thursday with a groin injury. Friday saw Ogunjobi limited again, and he carries a questionable designation heading into the Cowboys game. Jeremiah Moon, who just had his 21-day window to return start, was also listed as questionable for the game Sunday, if the Steelers choose to activate him.
UPDATE:
The Steelers announced Saturday Larry Ogunjobi was UPGRADED from questionable to no injury status for the game Sunday vs. the Cowboys.
#Steelers DE Larry Ogunjobi (groin) has been upgraded from questionable on the status report and will have no injury designation status for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
