In his press conference on Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out two players for this week. Missing his second game of the season is linebacker Nick Herbig with a hamstring. The other player who was ruled out on Tuesday was an injury in-game on Sunday in center Zach Frazier with an ankle injury. As expected, neither of these players practiced all week and have been ruled out for Week 7.
In addition to the two players who have been ruled out, Coach Tomlin also listed four players who could work their way back for this Sunday’s game. Linebacker Alex Highsmith with a groin injury, and tight end MyCole with a knee injury practiced on a limited basis last week and began this week with Pruit as a full participant and Highsmith once again limited. On Thursday and Friday, both players were full participants as they were looking to get back on the field on Sunday. Officially, both players are good to go for Sunday as neither has an injury designation after both were full participants again on Friday.
Safety Damontae Kazee and running back Cordarrelle Patterson are the other two players who could return, but on Wednesday neither of them were able to take the field. Thursday saw Kazee return as a limited participant while Patterson was still unable to take the field. Friday brought another day of no practice for Patterson as he has been ruled out, but Kazee was upgraded to a full participant and has no injury status.
There was one player on the injury report who missed practice of Wednesday with an injury that was not previously known. Running back Najee Harris did not participate in Wednesday’s practice due to a rib injury. On Thursday, Harris returned to practice as a full participant. Friday brought more of the same as Harris was full and has not injury status for Sunday.
The Steelers also had four veteran players who did not practice on Wednesday simply due to having another day of rest. Those players include Isaac Seumalo, T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward, and Larry Ogunjobi. On Thursday, Seumalo and Watt returned as full participants while Ogunjobi was limited. Like last week, Cam Heyward was given a second day off. Friday saw all four players as full participants and none carry an injury status for Sunday.
Two new names landed on the injury report on Thursday with one being a return to practice. Offensive tackle Dylan Cook opened his 21-day practice window on Thursday as he returned as a limited participant after missing the first six games on IR with a foot injury. Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson popped up on the injury report Thursday as being a limited participant due to a hamstring injury. On Friday, Roman Wilson was again limited and is questionable for Sunday’s game. As for Cook, he was a full participant but has been ruled out for Sunday as he will not be activated to the 53-man roster from the Reserve/Injured List.
A new injury which popped up on Friday was to Montravius Adams who was limited with a knee injury. The fact Adams landed on the injury report is significant as he is now questionable for Sunday’s game.
