4 players mentioned by Mike Tomlin following Day 3 of Minicamp on Thursday

The 2024 offseason is rolling on! Ahead of the six-week hiatus before training camp, the Steelers were on the field for team activities for the final week of offseason activities in the form of mandatory minicamp. After hearing from him following the first two days, Tomlin spoke to the media to answer questions one last time on Thursday. With plenty of questions asked by those in attendance, it is once again time for a players mentioned article. Remember these are current members of the Pittsburgh Steelers where a specific question was asked during the Q&A period.

Russell Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked what he measures Russell Wilson’s progress so far going all the way back through OTAs.

“I don’t know that I’ve been looking to be quite honest with you, man. It’s about teaching and learning. Him getting to know us and getting to know him. Teammates getting to know one another. I haven’t really been looking at it from an evaluation perspective, just from an instructional perspective.”

Payton Wilson

Coach Tomlin was asked about Peyton Wilson‘s comments about the Steelers coaches don’t coach away from deficiency but instead coach to strengths and if that is a message they hope to install with the rookies.

“Man, there’s so much to teach those guys. That’s just a component of it. You know, he’ll be continually amazed by the differences. You know, this is just a step man. The next step we take will be intensified. And so, with the teaching and learning, that’s just a component of being a young guy. I love his mindset. You know, he appears to be in the right line of work for sure.”

Elandon Roberts

Coach Tomlin was asked what Elandon Roberts has brought to the linebackers off the field since coming to Pittsburgh last year.

“He’s a pro. He’s smart. He’s a good teammate. He loves football. He likes to talk about it, he’s a good communicator. And it’s just good to have those skills, particularly at that position.”

Patrick Queen

Coach Tomlin was asked about having a versatile linebacker in Patrick Queen if it all allows them to utilize other players in different ways.

“You get a guy like Queen, and it doesn’t matter about the other components of the equation. He’s just a good well-rounded football player man. And he showed that here in a football-like environment, can’t wait to get him to Latrobe.”
