30 Scenarios in 30 Days: The Steelers will boast a winning home record in 2024

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2024 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp back at Saint Vincent College in order to fine tune their skills. As we here at SCN prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.

It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.

Let’s get to the scenario…

Scenario: The Steelers will boast a winning home record in 2024

Why it will happen: The Pittsburgh Steelers have always taken pride in protecting their home turf, and playing well in front of their fans. While this is true for every NFL franchise, you have to wonder if this is always true for the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, formerly known as Heinz Field.

Let’s take a look at the Steelers home records the last three seasons.

2023: 5-4

2022: 4-4

2021: 6-2

The Steelers typically play well at home, but drawing comparisons from year-to-year is difficult considering so much is based on their schedule, and not just the overall record. Nonetheless, you do have to look at the 2023 home schedule and wonder how 5-4 was the end result. You can wonder what would have been if the team didn’t drop back-to-back games vs. the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots in less than a weeks time.

The Steelers also typically play extremely well in prime time games, and four of the home games in 2024 are slated for prime time. With that in mind, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility for the Steelers to boast a winning record at home for a second straight year.

Why it won’t happen: The Steelers play some tough opponents at home in 2024, and when you look at who they have coming to Acrisure Stadium, this won’t be an easy task.

2024 Home Schedule:

  • Chargers
  • Cowboys
  • Jets
  • Giants
  • Ravens
  • Bengals
  • Browns
  • Chiefs

If you chalk up wins over the Chargers, Cowboys, Jets and Giants, you have yourself at least a .500 record at home. But AFC North games are never gimmes, and a home game on Christmas day vs. the defending Super Bowl champions won’t be easy either. Oh, and chalking up wins against those first four teams won’t be a cake walk either.

This is a tough stretch of games for the Steelers as home, and nothing will be guaranteed whether you’re talking about being in prime time or not.

Prediction: In my opinion, I think the Steelers barely squeak out a winning record a home, winning 5 of the 8 home games this season. I’ll have wins over the Chargers, Jets, Giants, and two against AFC North teams to round out the 5 wins. Could they have a 6-2 record at home, or better? Absolutely they could, but it will take them rising up to the challenge, something Mike Tomlin’s teams used to do on a regular basis.
