30 Scenarios in 30 Days: Patrick Queen will make the Pro Bowl again in 2024
The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the 2024 regular season, but before the real games begin, the team has to head to training camp back at Saint Vincent College in order to fine tune their skills. As we here at SCN prepare you for the start of camp, we give you a series called “30 Scenarios in 30 Days” which gives you a Steelers scenario every day leading up to the start of camp.
It is simple how it works. We provide you the scenario, reasons why it will or won’t happen, and then our prediction for what we think will take place.
Let’s get to the scenario…
Scenario: Patrick Queen will make the Pro Bowl again in 2024
Why it will happen: After being selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2023, Patrick Queen has already overcome the name recognition that is required to win a selection. Queen‘s numbers were very good in 2022 as well which likely put him on the radar. Often times, once a player can establish himself as a Pro Bowl player it takes somebody else specifically outperforming him in order to grab the spot.
Additionally, it is difficult for two players from the same team to grab two available Pro Bowl spots at the same position. The Baltimore Ravens managed to do that last season with Smith and Queen. Now that Queen is in Pittsburgh and can be the more featured linebacker, it might be easier to gain the attention to get the necessary votes. Also, with Smith and Queen having to often share the statistics, Patrick Queen does have the opportunity to grab more for himself in Pittsburgh despite having quality, but not Pro Bowl, not teammates at the position.
Why it won’t happen: When a player makes a Pro Bowl and then switches teams, there is no guarantee they will find the same success right away, if at all. The first thing Baltimore Ravens fans would say, even though they are bitter from Queen leaving to join the Steelers, is that he was more successful after Smith got to town. So, now being in a new situation with a new team, it might take too much acclamation for Queen to get noticed right away his first season in Pittsburgh.
Prediction: As a Steelers fan, the hope has to be that Patrick Queen either picks up where he left off with Baltimore last season or is able to take his game to a new level in 2024. Although it could be wishful thinking, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. For those who argue Queen’s success came due to Smith, he is only currently 24 years old and was obviously expected to improve each season in his NFL career. If I have to predict, I would say the chances are good the Steelers have their first inside linebacker selected to the Pro Bowl since Ryan Shazier in 2017.
