2024 Steelers Schedule Preview: Week 2 at Denver Broncos
It’s the official lull of the NFL offseason, and that means it provides enough time to go over things which you might not have time to dive into when the news and storylines are rampant. One of the things which is always something I want to do is an in-depth preview on the schedule. When the schedule gets released it involves a very knee jerk reaction from the fan base, but not a lot of introspection happens once the dust settles.
Well, if you’re like me, you’re in luck. This is the detailed breakdown of the Steelers 2024 regular season schedule, by week.
Week 2: at the Denver Broncos
Date: Sunday, September 15th
Time: 4:25pm EST
TV: CBS Sports
Last Meeting: 10/10/2021 – Steelers27 / Broncos 19
Overall Series Record: Broncos lead 20-13-1
2023 Records:
Steelers: 10-7
Broncos: 8-9
Early Betting Lines: Steelers -3 / O/U: 41.5 / Moneyline: Steelers -155
Projected Starting QB Matchup: Bo Nix/Zach Wilson vs. Russell Wilson
Analysis: The storylines continue for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2, this after Arthur Smith’s return to Atlanta in Week 1. This matchup will have much more vitriol involved compared to the season opening game in Atlanta, and that will all revolve around Russell Wilson returning to Denver.
Will Wilson get revenge over his 2023 team and Sean Payton? Will he show the fan base who has rejected his play last season as nothing more than a fluke, and not sustainable? Or will Payton get the last laugh and show Wilson is washed, and it is just a matter of time for the rest of the league to see what he saw all of last year prior to Wilson being benched?
This matchup should definitely lean the Steelers’ favor when you look at the quarterback matchup. If the starter is Zach Wilson, it would be advantage Pittsburgh’s defense. If you are starting rookie Bo Nix, it is a massive advantage for the Steelers. Can the Steelers offense put up the points necessary to win? I think they can against the Broncos defense, and they should be able to run their way to victory and not have to rely on Wilson to win the game for them.
This isn’t to suggest Wilson won’t be making plays, because I predict at least one dagger from Wilson to give his old employer the old “F You” on the field of play. When all is said and done, I see the Steelers staying perfect after Week 2.
Prediction: Steelers 24, Broncos 13
