Bio and Profile
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 243 lbs
Back-to-back winner of the John Mackey Award, Brock Bowers has universally been one of the most prolific tight ends in college football since arriving at Georgia. Given a four-star rating by major scouting outlets and ranked a top-ten tight end in the 2021 class, Bowers came to Georgia with high expectations. He burst onto the scene as a freshman, leading the Bulldogs in receiving with 56 receptions for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. That success continued in 2022, as he added another 942 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, including 152 yards and a touchdown in Georgia’s National Championship Game victory against TCU. Bowers was hampered by injury early in the season, but he still managed to accumulate over 700 receiving yards.
Scouting Report
Bowers is more than just a receiving tight end: he is a receiving weapon. He can line up just about anywhere, and he will be a matchup problem no matter where he is aligned. With superb body control and elite athleticism for the position, Bowers does a fantastic job coming down with contested catches, despite not being the biggest tight end. His quick first step out of his stance gives him a true advantage against opposing linebackers and safeties, as only the most athletic defenders can deal with his combination of size and quickness. I would have him rated even higher if he was a more powerful blocker, but with his skill set, I do not anticipate teams using him in that capacity that often. He is a willing blocker, and he is a solid blocker in space, but at his size, there is only so much he can do as an in-line blocker. Overall, I see Bowers as one of the top receiving tight ends in the NFL in short order, and his ideal fit is in a spread offense that moves him around in the formations.
Draft Projection
Bowers’ draft stock ranges anywhere from Pick 5 to Pick 15. The Chargers are the first team I could see taking him, but I am not sure they would do it at Pick 5. I see the Chargers as a team who may be looking to trade back in Round 1, as they have many offensive needs. If he falls outside the top 10, it would not shock me at all to see a team in the back half of Round 1, such as the Kansas City Chiefs, move up and select the standout tight end as an eventual replacement for Travis Kelce. With not many other needs on Kansas City’s roster, it makes a lot of sense.
