2 players miss the Steelers first practice of Wild Card week

The Pittsburgh Steelers have moved into the first week of the 2024 NFL postseason and are back in action on Saturday night in Baltimore against the Ravens. Getting back on the practice field, the Steelers had to give their first required injury report on Tuesday where there were two players who did not participate while two were limited. In the first injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR Department, nine names appear on the list.

Following the Steelers loss last Saturday night, captain Cam Heyward stated he was dealing with the flu yet played through the game. On Monday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated Heyward was excused in order to combat his illness. On Tuesday, Heyward did not participate in practice due to illness but likely would have been given a day of rest regardless.

One player who missed the last Steelers game due to injury was cornerback Donte Jackson who has been dealing with a back issue throughout the later half of the season. With the nerve issue potentially popping up at any time, Jackson was able to participate in practice on Tuesday as a full participant. How Jackson responds to practice will be a big key going forward.

The Steelers now have four players who have returned to practice from injury but have not been restored to the 53-man roster after it was announced on Tuesday that offensive tackle Calvin Anderson had his 21-day window opened. Joining wide receiver Roman Wilson, defensive tackle Logan Lee, and linebacker Cole Holcomb who has been on the PUP list, all four players were full participants in practice on Tuesday.

Leaving Saturday’s game early, rookie guard Mason McCormick broke his hand according to head coach Mike Tomlin, but is still looking at the possibility of playing this weekend if he can do so with a cast or brace. Wearing a brace on Tuesday, McCormick was a limited participant.

Another player who was a limited participant on Tuesday was tight end of MyCole Pruitt. This has been the case on and off throughout the season as Pruitt has missed some practice time due to a knee injury.

The only other player on Tuesday’s practice report was guard Isaac Seumalo who did not participate due to rest.
