Stars Use 3rd Period Explosion To Down Flames
The Dallas Stars have officially opened their season-long six-game homestand which spans until just before the Christmas Break.
Dallas got the homestand started off on the right now note, taking down the Flames in a resounding 6-2 fashion.
However, It wasn’t always the blowout that the game turned out to be. Dallas used a four-goal third-period outburst to fuel the huge win.
“I’m proud of our group. We just finished I think 13 games in 25 nights. We had a road trip east to Florida and Carolina. We had a road trip west to Utah and L.A. and Vegas in that 25 days.
We were running on fumes,” Dallas coach Pete DeBoer said. “I thought we dug deep tonight. I liked our start. We sagged a little bit in the middle but we got some big performances and plays from some guys at important times. Now we get a well-deserved rest.”
Roope Hintz gave the Stars a 3-2 lead at the 5:13 mark of the third period on a five-hole redirection.
The game remained close until the 12:01 mark when Sam Steel fired one home to make it 4-2 Stars.
After that, it became the Thomas Harley show as the Stars D-Man buried home two straight goals.
“Couple of muffins. Just put them on net,” Harley said. “The first one I thought [Oskar Back] had it. In the huddle I was saying, ‘Go, go, go’ (to the handshake line) and he said it wasn’t him. I’ll take it.”
Stars goalie Jake Oettinger continued his dominance at American Airlines Center recording 29 saves on 31 shots.
Overall, the Stars also continued their dominance at the AAC winning their 11th game in 12 tries on home ice.
The Stars will get some much-needed days off before they take on the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
