Stars Superstar Jason Robertson To Miss Training Camp After Foot Surgery

The Dallas Stars will be missing some star power when their training camp opens today in Frisco.

Superstar forward Jason Robertson will miss most of camp after undergoing foot surgery in the offseason to repair a cyst.

Robertson felt discomfort in his foot back in July and contacted Stars medical staff who conducted an MRI reveling he would need surgery.

On July 30th, Robertson underwent surgery in New York City to remove the cyst and wasn’t able to put any weight on his foot for the six weeks following.

According to Stars GM Jim Nill, Robertson is expected to be available when Dallas travels to Nashville to take on the Preds in their season opener on October 10th and could rejoin the team late in camp.

“We are going to restrict his activity and monitor his foot to make sure everything is healed properly,” Nill said. “The plan is maybe late in camp to get a little bit more action, but he’ll miss the majority of training camp. It’s just really a healing process now.”

Head Coach Pete Deboer echoed that Robertson doesn’t seem to be super worried about the issue that will keep him out of his second training camp in three years.

“He’s not worried about it — or he’s less worried about it than I am,” DeBoer said. “It’s never perfect, but you are going to go through these things, but I’d much rather him go through it now and have him miss training camp than miss regular-season games.”

In 2023/2024, Robertson put up yet another solid campaign putting up 29 goals and 51 assists while playing all 82 regular season games.

Postseason play also treated Robertson quite well as he put up six goals and 10 assists in 19 Stars playoff games.

Robertson is in the 3rd year of a 4 year deal he signed before the 2022/2023 season in which he will make 7.75 million.

“He’s a different athlete than he was three or four years ago,” Pete DeBoer said. “I think he’s a mature athlete.

I think he understands how to handle it. I think he’s keeping himself in great shape. I think he’s a hungry guy. I think he wants to do more than he did last year. If you ask him, I don’t think he was as happy with his season as he was the year before, so you’ve got a motivated guy there, and that eases my mind.”
