Stars Snap Losing Streak Against Red Wings
After two straight losses, the Dallas Stars are back in the win column thanks to a Sunday night win at American Airlines Center.
The Stars defeated the Red Wings 4-1, thanks to a strong performance from Jake Oettinger and a balanced scoring attack.
“I think the teams that let [losing] creep in, that’s how you dig yourself a hole. Every team is going to lose a couple of games in a row. We’ve done a good job of not digging ourselves a hole and losing three, four, five in a row,” Oettinger said.
“It’s all just response. Everyone’s going to have bad nights here and there, no one is perfect. We’re not always going to have our best … we’ve just got to buckle down and make sure it doesn’t get away from us.”
Matej Blumel scored his first goal of the season to get the Stars on the board to make it 1-0. His first goal came just a game after his goal in Colorado was wiped out.
“It feels good, obviously. Waited from the first one over three years,” Blumel said. “After last night, that one got called off, but this one finally went in. I was nervous until the next puck drop that they were going to call a coach’s challenge or not. Luckily, they didn’t and I’m happy that one went in.”
Red-hot Jason Robertson made it 2-0 on the power play at 13:05 for his fifth goal in the last five games.
Mavrik Bourque capped off a three-goal first period when he finished a feed from Llya Lyubushkin.
Marco Kasper cut the lead to 3-1 at 12:01 of the third period to give the Wings some life but it would be short-lived.
Wyatt Johnston got the goal at 14:09 on a backhander to close things out.
The Stars still have not lost three consecutive games under head coach Pete DeBoer who was hired prior to the 2022-23 season.
“We’ve done a really good job of stopping the bleeding. We were a tired group tonight, running on some fumes. I thought we had a good formula to win,” DeBoer said.
“We got some early goals, got a power-play goal. I thought we really had some good detail to our defensive game the rest of the night. Coming off the Colorado game, we were just too loose. We gave up way too much. We can’t play that way. We’re not going to outscore teams with Roope (Hintz), (Mason) Marchment, and (Tyler) Seguin out of the lineup. We’ve got to play a tight, detailed game, and I thought we did that tonight.”
The Stars will be back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes from the AAC.
